Recession

No one likes to say it, and I’ve personally had my head in the sand about this for several months. But it is true we are in a recession and even possibly another depression. I probably didn’t notice because as an entrepreneur I can’t get laid off, and I don’t watch a lot of TV. It wasn’t until this month that I noticed any big difference in my business. I know- I am lucky. What I noticed was that I don’t have any appointments in the future, and without business coming in I might have to lay off some people, unfortunately I’m the only one I can fire.

New Pricing

I don’t want to do it, none of us really do. However, in the face of losing everything I’ve worked for in the last year here in Phoenix, I’ll do it and I’ll be happy about it. I’m not entirely sure that the problem is the price of things or if it is just the overall fear we’re feeling that is causing the decline in jobs for freelancers. I’ve seen the competition start to become leaner and witnessed prices drop in other fields, products and services. Seeing these things made me realize that in the big boom we just came out of maybe we got a little fat and happy.

Doing what I can

Over the last year I aggressively pursued business and the market of photography in Arizona. Even carving out a couple new niche markets in the emerging social media scene, things like soft edits and avatar photography. On the business side I was just as aggressive in building my business by reinvesting all my resources into new and better tools, strategies and marketing. Today I’ve dropped the prices on all of my products and services, it is a temporary solution to this problem of trying to maintain my business through these hard times. I know I’ll not be growing at these prices (photography is an expensive hobby and even more expensive as a profession), and I’ll need to work twice as hard. Still, I love photography and I love working as a photographer. I know that the economy will recover eventually and I hope that this adjustment will help me make it through to the other side still calling myself a professional photographer.

Contact

If you’re one of those that waited to get a business headshot, product or personal photography done because of the price now is an excellent time to contact me and set up an appointment or schedule a meeting to discuss any larger projects.

Thank you

If you’re one of the people that hired me in the last year, thank you. You’ve made a big difference in my life and made it possible for me to live my dream. I never forget that you are the ones that make it possible.
