About Portraiture
Tyson Crosbie Portaits
Classically trained as an artist, I understand the craft of photography – from exposure and depth of field to lighting and composition. Growing up in photography shooting black and white film on a studio 4×5 camera, and developing the results in a darkroom, gives me a respect for the process of capturing light. This methodical history also informs the soul of how I work. Even though the tools are capable of instant results, with digital cameras and strobe lighting, I still take my time and search for the right moment.
A photograph and a portrait.
You hire a photographer to push a button.
You hire a portraitist to see and create a moment that defines who you are.
Some portraitists are fond of saying they steal souls for this very reason. A good portrait becomes an icon that points to something inside of us; our potential, hopes and dreams. Good images connect us to each other even through time and space, and allow our clients to feel like they know us. This is invaluable in an environment that embraces authenticity.
